Events

Events is under Content in the left-hand menu. It holds everything on your calendar — meetings, classes, and events synced in from Tangilla.

There is no draft for Events. Saving publishes immediately.

Two ways an event gets here

Most events sync in from Tangilla automatically — see What's synced and what you can edit and Running the data syncs. You can also create one by hand for anything that doesn't come through the feed.

Each event carries a Source field (Tangilla or Manual) plus Tangilla Event ID and Last Synced, all read-only, so you can tell which ones are yours to fully control and which are rebuilt by the sync.

Adding an event by hand

  1. Click Events in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click Create New.
  3. Set the Event Start Date and Event End Date — both include a time, not just a day.
  4. Choose one or more Event Types (see below) — required.
  5. Choose a Category — required.
  6. Choose the Action Button label: Register or Learn more.
  7. Choose where it's Featured On: Homepage, Events page, or Side panel.
  8. Build the description under the Content tab.
  9. Click Save.

Event Types

A short lookup list — Event, Class, On Demand, and so on — that you tag each event with, mainly to separate ordinary events from classes. It's a separate, tiny screen: Event Types, under Site Features in the left-hand menu.

Don't confuse Event Types with Categories. Event Types is this one-field list; Categories is the shared list also used by News and other content. An event needs one of each.

To add an Event Type: click Event Types, Create New, type a Name, save. Names must be unique.

Classes and instructor bios

If the event is a class or has a presenter, the Content tab has fields for Instructor 1 and Instructor 2 — a photo and a bio (rich text) for each. These are optional; leave them blank for a regular event.

The article body

Events use the same block-based editor as Pages, but Events has no main content block picker on this collection beyond the description field above — the block choice available is limited to the side panel only: Table of Contents, Related News, Related Events, or Links. See Page blocks.

Members Only

Tick Members Only to hide an event from visitors who aren't signed in on the website.

If an event is missing or wrong

  1. Check Tangilla first, if it's meant to be a synced event — a missing event is almost always missing from the feed.
  2. Check Last Synced on a few other events to confirm the sync is running (see Listing Sync Logs for the equivalent listing check — event sync history works the same way, see Running the data syncs).
  3. If it's a manually-created event, check it was saved and that its dates haven't already passed — the site normally only shows upcoming events.

Where this appears on the website

At /events/ followed by the event's slug. An Events List block placed on a page shows a filterable calendar or list — see Page blocks.
