Header
Header is in the left-hand menu, under Site Structure. It holds your logo, your main menu, and the small top bar above it. This is also where your primary navigation lives — CBAR does not have a separate Navigation screen.
The four tabs
| Tab | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Branding | Your logo, a dark-background version of it, and its alt text |
| Social | The social media icons shown in the header |
| Top Bar | A small secondary row of links, shown above the main menu |
| Primary Navigation | Your main menu |
Adding a page to the main menu
- Click Header in the left-hand menu.
- Open the Primary Navigation tab.
- Click Add Item under Nav Items.
- Fill in the link (see Choosing what a link points to, below).
- Optionally add a Description and an Image — these only show if the menu item has sub-items and displays as a mega menu.
- Click Save.
You can have at most six top-level menu items. The field stops you adding a seventh — that limit is deliberate, so the menu stays usable on a normal screen.
Adding a dropdown
Each top-level item can have Sub Navigation Items — its own link, description and image, nested under the parent. Add these the same way, inside the parent item.
Choosing what a link points to
Every link in the CMS — header, footer, buttons — uses the same three options:
| Option | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Internal link | A page, document, news article, political news item, event or housing report on your own site |
| Custom URL | Another website, or a page type that isn't in the list above |
| File Upload | A file people download directly, such as a PDF |
Pick Internal link and a Document to link to field appears, searching across those record types. Pick Custom URL for anything else, and tick Open in new tab if it should leave your site.
The Top Bar
A separate, smaller row of links — for things like a phone number, a login link, or a quick link to an outside tool. Works the same way as Primary Navigation: add an item, fill in the link, optionally add sub-items.
Social links
Under the Social tab, add one row per platform: choose the Platform from the list (Facebook, X / Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Other), then paste the URL. An Icon Override lets you upload a custom icon instead of the default one for that platform.
Removing a menu item
Open the Primary Navigation or Top Bar tab, click the row to expand it, then remove it and click Save. The item disappears from the site immediately.
There is no draft for the header. Saving publishes the change straight away, and it's visible on every page at once since the header appears everywhere.
