Redirects

Redirects is under Site Features in the left-hand menu. It sends visitors who land on an old web address to the correct new one, instead of a broken-page error.

When you need one

Create a redirect whenever a web address changes and something might still be linking to the old one — a bookmark, an old email, a search-engine result, a printed flyer. Without a redirect, that link now shows an error.

The most common case: you rename a page, or delete a news article and replace it with a new one. The old address stops working the moment you save — a redirect is what keeps it working.

Adding a redirect

  1. Click Redirects in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click Create New.
  3. In From URL, enter the old address, starting with / — for example /old-page-name.
  4. Choose where it should go: a Page or News article on your site, or a Custom URL for anywhere else, including another website.
  5. Click Save.

Redirects can only point at a Page or a News article by internal reference — for any other destination (a document, an event, another site) use Custom URL with the full address.

After changing a "From" address

The website needs to be rebuilt for a change to the From URL to take effect. The CMS tells you this on the field itself. If you edit an existing redirect's From address and it doesn't seem to work right away, that's why — ask us to trigger a rebuild rather than assuming the redirect is broken.

Redirects you add new (rather than edit) take effect without a rebuild.

What you can't do here

There's no bulk import — each redirect is entered one at a time. For a large batch (a full site migration, for example), ask us; that's a job for a script, not this screen by hand.
